It's been almost 2 months since Jiterbug arrived at her forever home and she is settling in nicely. She has come to enjoy Harry and Kenny's company. She seems to feel safe and comfortable in the pasture, and I get the feeling she doesn't want to leave. What an awesome feeling that is to know that a horse you adopted is happy ! It's the ultimate experience.
Jitterbug is one of the sweetest mares you'll come across. She just loves to be touched, and has a couple sweet spots she likes to get scratch. If you don't know where they are, she'll be more than happy to turn this way or that to show you ! Trust me, you won't miss them.
The Boys protect Jitterbug, always keeping close to her. She sleeps at night out in the pasture even though there is a large shelter that fits all 3 quite nicely. I guess she still feels the most comfortable in a wide open area and that's OK with us. She will go into the shelter in the day to nap and the Boys will flank the outsides while she dozes.
One afternoon we got a pop up rain storm, the kind that brings high winds and lightening. This one also brought some very large thunder boomers. I was in the pasture on our tractor when the storm hit and had enough time to run in the shelter for cover. About 1 minute before the storm hit I looked over and saw Harry pawing the ground while looking at Jitterbug and Kenny. I didn't know what he was trying to do. Then he started pawing at them, and rounding them up under the trees. When the three of them were finally grouped together Harry stopped pawing, the rains came, and they all stayed put until the storm passed. Amazing.
