It's been almost 2 months since Jiterbug arrived at her forever home and she is settling in nicely. She has come to enjoy Harry and Kenny's company. She seems to feel safe and comfortable in the pasture, and I get the feeling she doesn't want to leave. What an awesome feeling that is to know that a horse you adopted is happy ! It's the ultimate experience.
Jitterbug is one of the sweetest mares you'll come across. She just loves to be touched, and has a couple sweet spots she likes to get scratch. If you don't know where they are, she'll be more than happy to turn this way or that to show you ! Trust me, you won't miss them.
The Boys protect Jitterbug, always keeping close to her. She sleeps at night out in the pasture even though there is a large shelter that fits all 3 quite nicely. I guess she still feels the most comfortable in a wide open area and that's OK with us. She will go into the shelter in the day to nap and the Boys will flank the outsides while she dozes.
One afternoon we got a pop up rain storm, the kind that brings high winds and lightening. This one also brought some very large thunder boomers. I was in the pasture on our tractor when the storm hit and had enough time to run in the shelter for cover. About 1 minute before the storm hit I looked over and saw Harry pawing the ground while looking at Jitterbug and Kenny. I didn't know what he was trying to do. Then he started pawing at them, and rounding them up under the trees. When the three of them were finally grouped together Harry stopped pawing, the rains came, and they all stayed put until the storm passed. Amazing.

I have always liked Jitterbug and Tango, two sisters, and had thought about adopting them together. When I found out that Tango had been adopted and Jitter left alone, I was heartbroken. Who would love her I thought ??? Would anyone spend time with her again ?
The two sisters had helped me get my Mojo back when I had been nipped by Harry. They are both sweet and docile horses, more prone to laziness than high energy. I had been asked to go into their pasture and take pictures of them but was skidish. How could anyone be afraid of these two I wondered ? Well, as I was taking pictures of Tango, Jitterbug snuck up behind me and started nuzzling my shoulder, knowing that I was afraid. I think she wanted me to understand that they wouldn't hurt me and that it was OK. I found myself crying and wondering how I could ever be afraid of horses again.
It was after that episode that I fell in love with Jitterbug.
My husband and I had talked about adopting two different horses, Harry and Kenny, and did. We had lots on our plate at the time, so we hoped that no one would adopt Jitter until we were ready to ourselves. As it turned out, that's exactly what happened.
We formally adopted Jitterbug last month, and hope to bring her up to her FOREVER home this week so she and Harry and Kenny can be a family together !
We have one more we'd like to adopt to complete our little family. Someone is looking at that particular horse so we're just waiting patiently in the background. If it's meant to happen, it will. I believe in the end, he'll be with us and we'll love him like we do Harry, Kenny, and Jitterbug !
I'll keep you posted !
